gaaucau quick OCR
gaaucau quick OCR turns scanned PDFs and page images into text and reading copies on your Mac. It combines PaddleOCR-VL-1.6 recognition with PP-DocLayoutV3 page layout detection. Both models are included with the app, so OCR runs locally without an account or a cloud OCR service.
Availability
The app is currently in testing and being prepared for the Mac App Store. It is not yet available on the store. A download link will be added here when it is released.
What it does
- Imports scanned PDFs or folders of page images.
- Recognizes printed text, including multilingual pages, tables, and formulas.
- Lets you review scan splitting and follow page-by-page processing.
- Exports text and reading copies for further editing or reading.
OCR can make mistakes. Check important text and reading order, especially on vertical pages, complex tables, and pages with small annotations. Quick OCR is a standalone app; the separate Proofreader workbench is not included.
Requirements
An Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 15 or later. The bundled models make the app download substantial; no separate model installation is needed.
Getting started
- Open Quick OCR and choose a scanned PDF or a folder of page images.
- Let the app import the pages and run OCR.
- Use Review scans to inspect any flagged split decisions.
- Choose Export to create a reading copy or text output.
